This kitchen truly has it all. While the clients’ priority was to have a design with impressive visual appeal, they were also eager to ensure their new kitchen opened up the living area of their home and incorporated seamlessly with the rest of the house.

In response to this brief, Hennie Blom from Ikandu designed the stunning space featured here. Not only aesthetically appealing, the kitchen is also functional and accessible for the client. There is a place for everything, meaning the kitchen is uncluttered, spacious, and easy to keep clean.

With a striking black and white colour combination, a thick, engineered stone island bench, a separate preparation area for meals and plenty of drawers for storage, the kitchen is a practical work space.

When the team at Ikandu took on the project, the intent was to provide the client with a sleek, modern kitchen that would allow all items to be within easy reach, while maintaining an abundance of bench space.

A mix of black and white surfaces creates contrast and interest in the space, and also helps to define various areas. A mirror splashback adds an additional dimension to the kitchen, while the doors and panels are finished in a stunning two-pack gloss, as are the matching kickboards.

The lighting in the kitchen also adds a sophisticated touch. With strip lighting located beneath the handle-less overhead cabinetry, the kitchen is light-filled and sundrenched, making it a bright, warm and inviting space.

Ikandu was established in 2007 by Jacques Lategan. The company designs and builds all types of kitchens, from modern and contemporary to French provincial. Ikandu works with clients in Perth as well as its surrounding areas. Ikandu also undertakes custom cabinets for complete house fit-outs.
