Through its contemporary design and complementing materials and textures, this kitchen effortlessly blends with the adjoining alfresco area to create a lavish indoor/outdoor living space.

One of the key features of this kitchen is the use of unique granite. The centrepiece of the design is the dramatic elongated island bench finished with beautiful Labradite White granite, which also house a stainless steel undermounted sink both in the inside and outside bench, which continues through to the outdoor kitchen. The island and surrounding benchtops were so vast that eight large slabs were required to construct the piece, which were imported specially from Europe.

The connection between the indoor and outdoor space remains strong with both the kitchen and alfresco cabinetry doors and panels featuring a white two-pack polyurethane satin finish and highlight doors with Alifrost frames and opal acrylic panels, which was used on the interior cabinetry. Matching commercial-grade porcelain floor tiles together with an extended ‘Pluto Metallic’ glass splashback also provide a strong linear line that draws the eye in and around the kitchen and out to the outdoor area.

As the client enjoys entertaining family and friends, with many people participating in food preparation, it was important to have several fully-equipped work areas. The appliances have been placed strategically throughout the space to minimise the distance travelled by the user, as well as convenience and work flow.

A generous scullery also allows for messier functions to be hidden and a large barbecue area, which includes a wok burner, sink and refrigerator, ensures the alfresco is a highly-functional kitchen in its own right.

The pivoting frameless glass door provides an unimpeded vista and makes movement between the two spaces a breeze, again blurring the lines between inside and out. Careful attention was also paid to the cabinetry interiors to customise the storage space, while a unique raised-end cabinet in the alfresco provides acess for the homeowner’s two West Highland White Terriers.

With a design and finishes of such outstanding quality, this impressive kitchen, designed by Dorian Morelli of Dorian Morelli Designs, with finer details chosen by Keith Conner and Glenda Roff of KTC Design in collaboration with the client, sets the benchmark for contemporary living.
