The brief for this stunning kitchen by Peta Fitzgerald of Mizfitz Productions focused on two things – the homeowner’s modern, eclectic English style and functionality. Placement was carefully considered, right down to a place for the tea and cups that was close to the kettle.

Originally the kitchen was a ‘G’ shape, which bottlenecked the flow of the kitchen, living area and office/sitting area. A window and existing sliding door were altered so the kitchen could spread further into the living/dining area. Changing the space’s configuration to have a large island bench opened up the kitchen, creating a natural flow between spaces.

Modelled on an English-style kitchen, the space features very simple shaker door profiles, with lightly recessed panels and satin lacquer paint. The handles and pulls were imported from England especially.

Upon entering, the kitchen seems to be all white, but as you walk through the space you are met with a subtle but bold use of colour and texture, with the island bench in a pale green and the pantry in a pale blue.

The large island bench is the hub of the kitchen – the cooking centre, the work centre and the place where people gravitate. The island, with a Bianco Antico granite benchtop, houses a De Dietrich induction hotplate, complemented by a Schweigen rangehood.

The ample pantry storage is well-concealed, with many pull-outs making access a breeze. Seamlessly integrated, the Liebherr refrigerator and freezer sit either side of an ASKO oven and steam oven. Complementing the appliances is the stainless steel butler’s sink.

With energy-efficiency in mind, LED lighting was installed, replacing the older halogen and incandescent lighting. The family’s character has been lovingly poured into the design of the kitchen. This, combined with Mizfitz Productions’ expertise, has resulted in a kitchen that is modern and traditional, and totally unique.
